Engie
Bringing Mac Device Management into Microsoft Intune
About the client
Engie is a French industrial group with an international footprint, specialized in energy and related services. Founded in 2008 from the merger of Gaz de France and Suez, Engie is one of the world's leading providers of natural gas, electricity, and energy services.
The business challenge
Nearly 800 Macs to migrate to Intune
Although predominantly made up of Windows workstations, Engie's IT fleet was gradually diversifying with the addition of Macs. To standardize its device management policy and pool costs, Engie decided to bring Mac management into Microsoft Intune, calling on two Synapsys Intune experts to strengthen its teams for the migration of close to 800 Macs.
Our solution
Mac requires a different approach than Windows
Intune had originally been set up to manage Engie's 150,000 Windows workstations and mobile devices. As the Intune experts explained, application management and configuration work differently on Mac, which has a distinct environment built around iCloud, device encryption, and other native features.
Implementation
Preserving the native Mac experience
Synapsys consultants were given autonomy to run the project, deploying a modern Mac environment that lets users work from wherever they choose, with the applications they need, inside a structured framework. The guiding principle was not to restrict Mac's functional scope: rather than making a Mac behave like a Windows device, the approach leaned into native macOS capabilities to unlock its full potential. A dedicated Mac user community was also created at Engie, with its own Yammer group for sharing best practices.
Measurable results
A unified device policy that respects each platform
This approach let Engie bring nearly 800 Macs under the same Intune umbrella as its Windows fleet, without compromising the native Mac experience, while building an internal community to sustain best practices going forward.
