Deploying Windows Autopilot to Modernize the Workplace
About the client
Eiffage is one of Europe's leading construction and concessions groups. Founded in 1993 through the merger of several French construction companies, Eiffage operates in many countries, mainly across Europe, specializing in major projects in transport infrastructure, civil engineering, and building construction.
The business challenge
Eiffage had already run an initial POC and feasibility study to estimate the cost of migrating to Windows Autopilot. Two issues remained: an incomplete internal understanding of the tool's actual scope, and the presence of "ghost" machines, not individually registered with vendors, that were incompatible with native enrollment. Synapsys picked up the existing POC results to identify what genuinely fell within Autopilot's scope, correct the gaps in understanding, and establish a reliable baseline before defining the roadmap.
Our solution
Synapsys structured the engagement around five areas: DAT and DEX, formalizing the target architecture and operating procedures for internal teams and their vendors; a critical review of the existing POC, identifying elements outside Autopilot's scope and correcting misunderstandings about ghost machines; opportunistic migration through hardware refresh, the preferred approach to spread the workload over time without heavy intervention; wipe-and-clean, used only for machines outside the refresh cycle; and end-to-end user experience, with SSO, MFA, PKI certificates, network access, and printing all addressed from first power-on.
Implementation
The new POC is being run by Eiffage's own teams and vendors, under Synapsys's supervision. This deliberate approach, engaging the teams rather than working in their place, ensures genuine upskilling and the ability to steer the rollout independently once it's in production.
Measurable results
By the end of the engagement, Eiffage had a clarified scope, a controlled migration roadmap, and a structured documentation base. The first power-on experience is designed to be entirely self-service, with no IT support intervention needed, and with certificates and network access managed from the initial connection.
